Florida Marlins @ Washington Nationals

Equality Fairfax bough a block of tickets for Gay Day at RFK Stadium. I think we had 18 tickets and it was a great night to be out at the ballpark!

I’d never been to RFK stadium before and I guess the nicest thing I can say about it is that it isn’t Camden Yards. Compared to other stadiums around the country, RFK is pretty drab. Our seats were in section 519, just a bit to the 3rd base side of home plate in the upper deck. As it turned out, the backstop was in most of the photos. Not much I could do about that short of moving

The Gay Men’s Chorus of Washington DC sang the National Anthem and did a fabulous job despite RFK’s rather dreadful acoustics (bringing inteligibility out of the voice anouncements took major concentration and generally wasn’t worth the effort).

The one problem with taking photos at a ballgame is that I don’t really get to follow the game because I get more focused on getting the photo. However, the Nats lost 4-2 and manager Frank Robinson summed up the game this way, “The ballgame was not a good ballgame. Period.” I don’t follow the Nats so I can’t compare this game to any other but the Marlins took a one run lead in the top of the first and never trailed. The Nats did mount a threat around the 6th inning but it evaporated and the Marlins held on to win 4-2.
