Tigers at the National Zoo

It’s been a little over a year since I’ve been to the National Zoo so when Doug and Ariya asked if I’d like to go, I grabbed the camera.

The weather threatened in the morning making our later than intended start a good choice since the rain had cleared out by the time we got there.

We stumbled across the tigers and found three rowdy tiger cubs that wanted to play with mama. At first it seemed that Mom just wanted to lay down and relax but the cubs wouldn’t take no at an answer. Watching them stalk their mother and practice hunting made for some great photography but I couldn’t help sympathizing with their prey in the wild. But, who can resist adorable young animals and even if they were practising hunting they were so cute that you couldn’t help wanting to jump in and play with them. Fortunately, the zoo doesn’t make it easy to indulge those impulses so I settled for getting closer with a telephoto lens and a teleconverter.
